About Me

As you may have guessed, my name is April and I love to cook. I wont bore you with my life story here because one, I'm saving all of that for my cookbook, and two, I did that when I started this blog.  So if you would like to read about my amazing childhood and adolescence in the kitchen or if you are curious as to how and why this blog came to be, feel free to read The Background and The Beginning.

But if you're here to get a quick overview about who I am and what I do, here it is:

I'm a teacher by trade.  I've been teaching Middle and High School for 6 years and I love it dearly.  But as you can imagine, teaching can be a stressful profession and I have managed to find refuge in front of the stove.  I cook regularly for myself, my family, and friends and as I cook, I post pictures and tips online via Twitter and Instagram (@the_single_cook).  When I have successful moments in the kitchen, I write the recipes and post them here on this blog.  My life as a tweeter and my life as a blogger have opened up amazing doors for me.  I have been asked to be a Contributer to Ebony.com's Life/Food section where my recipes are posted monthly.  And my mother and I started a culinary business where we began as caterers but now we make the best Gourmet Caramel Popcorn you will ever eat.

When I'm not teaching, or cooking, or blogging, or running our popcorn business, I try to work on my cookbook.  It's a cookbook for singles (hence the twitter and IG name) and it's been in the making for a while.  I wish I could tell you when it was coming out but I can't.  What I will say is that with continued prayer, hard work, and support from amazing people like you, I know that the book will be published soon and amazing things will continue to happen for me.

But in the meantime, enjoy the recipes and feel free to comment and reach out to me via twitter.  I promise to be in touch!
